So if you’re feeling all kinds of negative emotions that resurfaced just take a look at your kid’s smile and celebrate with them. Your priority is to make sure your kids are happy and feels loved. Separation can have quite an impact on them and it is our job to make sure the transition goes smoothly.
2. Hit your local Dollar Tree
For any holiday, my fists stop is Dollar Tree. They have the cutest and most adorable decorations, candies, favor boxes, arts, and crafts, goodie bags, and much more for every Holiday. Whether you’re going through a divorce or a separation and is not an amicable one kids will sense the tension. As a mom, that’s something you don’t want your kids to feel or see. That’s why you have to make this and every valentine’s day special and shower them with lots of LOVE. Start your morning feeling positive with a huge smile and prepare an amazing breakfast for your kids. Decorate the kitchen table with cute and adorable hearts, heart-shaped donuts, pancakes, and croissants with a traditional breakfast. They will be so surprised once they are up still yawning, rubbing their little adorable eyes, and see all the goodies you set at the table for them. The key is to show them love and assure them everything is going to be ok despite the separation between mom and dad. No matter how tough it will be, your kids come first.
4. Treat bag for kids
Putting together Valentine’s Day Treat bags is always FUN! I personally put together a treat bag for my kiddo and when he was in kindergarten I would make goodies treat bags for his classmates. Gather all your adorable heart candies and put together an extra special treat bag for your kids, with a small heart shape chocolate box, teddy bear, and whatever other goodies you want to add to the bag. Once they open the goodie bag the big smile they will have on their face will be priceless.

5. Arts & Crafts
Download Valentine’s Day printable worksheets here. Crayola has a ton of activities that can be downloaded or purchased. When I started doing Lap books with my son, I downloaded all their printables to create crafts. Create Valentine’s Day card with an art kit. Art kits are amazing for kids so they can create all kinds of arts and crafts for any occasion.

It won’t be the same as when you were in a relationship, with roses, chocolates, and dinner. But I can guarantee it will be amazing when you look into your kid’s eyes and see their excitement as you show them what Valentine’s Day is all about. Trust me you will never dread Valentine’s Day ever again. Remember these things happen for a reason and the reasoning for the separation, just know you are not alone. It is great to be in a relationship with a good partner, but no relationship is much better than a toxic and unhealthy one. If there are kids in the middle, your priority is to make sure your kids are good physically and mentally. Your main goal is that your kids feel loved now more than anything.
