I’m a mommy guru who absolutely loves to maintain a skin-care routine. It’s been a little over two weeks since we had to change our daily lifestyle due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is vital to understand just how important taking care of your skin is. The stress level is through the roof with the social distance, remote learning, and working from home. Remote learning started for our kid March 23, 2020, and since my husband and I, are first responders geez it hasn’t been easy. With the closure of the hair & nail salon, our beauty routine hasn’t been the same. As a busy mom on the go, it has forced me to learn how to beautify myself because of the lack of time I have to spend at a salon. I will share how to maintain a skincare routine while staying home using drugstore products.
How To Start a Skin-Care Routine Using Drugstore Products
Drugstore Products
With the closure of many high-end stores, you are still able to shop online, but if you don’t want to wait for the packages to arrive you always have your neighborhood drugstore. So if you have to run out to stock up on groceries, check out your local drugstore. Target, CVS, Walmart, or Walgreens are still open but they are limiting the number of shoppers for proper social distance. I will share drugstore beauty finds to help ease this COVID-19 pandemic.
Skin-Care
Skincare Routine
With all the stress and anxiety, please don’t stop your skincare and beauty routine. Although our life has been turned upside down with the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, we have to try to keep some of our daily routines with some setbacks. You may have a hard time finding the right cleanser, it may be a process of trial and error. I went through a few of those, just note that some products might not work for your skin. I will share a list of drug-store skincare products that work amazingly on my skin that is budget-friendly. If you are looking for high-end skincare products, I recently purchase TULA Skin and wrote a review, check it out here.
Morning Skin Care Routine
STEP 1
Your morning skincare routine should start off with a Cleanser, that is intended to wash your face with, not regular bar soap. I’m a huge fan of Neutrogena and Olay products. I’ve used the Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub, I have a combination of dry/sensitive skin. The gentle scrub works amazingly on my face and it exfoliates without being too harsh on my skin.
TIP: If your skin tends to be oily, you would want to choose an oil-free product and if your skin is dry, definitively a product without alcohol and fragrance.
STEP2
Toner is applied after washing your face with a cleanser, it helps clear any excess dirt and oil that cleansing hasn’t gotten rid off. If you want clear skin, a TONER is a must. What I love about using toner, it smoothes skin and balances the Ph of your skin. It works great on acne-prone skin because it helps shrink your pores.
STEP 3
Moisturizer is a must every time you wash your face it helps keep your natural oils balance. Some cleansers can leave your skin feeling a bit dry and to prevent your skin from drying out you need to hydrate your skin. I bounce back from Neutrogena Hydro Boost Moisturizer and Olay Regenerist Whip with SPF.
Tip: If you have dry skin a cream-based moisturizer works well as they have more oil and hydrate your skin. If you have oily skin stick to a lightweight gel moisturizer.
Dream Glow Moisture Cream is a beauty product from Model Off Duty Beauty. Their products are natural, cruelty-free, gluten-free, vegan, non-toxic, paraben-free, non-GMO, natural, and phthalate-free. As part of my winter, skincare routine I started using their Dream Glow Moisture Cream, I loved it. I love how instantly hydrates my skin and feels soft and smooth. I like that their products are full of natural powerful antioxidants that soothe and make your skin soft with a beautiful glow. You can check out their line of products here and at checkout enter code: cleanmodbeauty and receive 15% off your order.

Long summer days and hot summer nights can take your skin from dazzling to dry. We’ve crafted this Summer Glow Gift Set with protective SPF 35 and powerful Retinol so you can keep a healthy glow that lasts all summer long. Our Sensitive Makeup Remover Wipes remove dirt, sweat, and sand, our Face Sunscreen SPF 35 + Makeup Primer keeps makeup on and sun damage off, and our Retinol 24 Night Facial Moisturizer transforms your skin overnight so you can wake up and do it all again.
STEP 4
Serum is so diverse but they help solve skin problems, hydrate the skin around the eyes, brighten your skin, minimize dark spots, help reduce fine lines. Eye cream helps moisturize the skin around your eyes where fine lines and crow’s feet slowly start appearing. You can use either serum or just eye cream.
STEP 5
SPF, SPF, SPF I can’t strongly emphasize how important SPF is for your face even if you are not outside. YES… even if your home put on some SPF after your moisturizer. Olay has a fantastic SPF + Primer, how amazing is that. I like to double up on my SPF, especially if you like wearing light makeup. After you put makeup you can always set it with a setting spray with SPF, which is the perfect last step to your beauty routine. I love that it keeps makeup on and sun damage off.
Night Time Skincare Routine
For your nighttime beauty routine, you want to cleanse, hydrate, and moisturize.

STEP 1
Remove ALL your Makeup before bed, we all know sleeping with makeup is a no-no. There have been days I’ve been so tired and I’ve been guilty of it but the following day my skin is hurting. So no matter how tired I am I make sure I remove all my makeup. When I have a long shift and I’m tired I love to use these budget-friendly Makeup Remover towelettes to remove whatever makeup was on my face. A friend recommended Physicians Formula Coconut Milk Eye Makeup Remove and is very gentle, very effective, and definitely non-irritating.
STEP 2
Cleansing your skin before going to bed is one of the most important steps in your skincare routine. I like to use the Hydrating Cleansing Cloths (water activated). You want to make sure you cleanse your skin and it stays super hydrated while you get your beauty sleep. Sorry ladies’ un-removed toxins on the skin are what make the skin start showing signs of aging more quickly.
STEP 3
Toner, as you apply it on your skin in your daytime routine you also apply it for night routine. Once all your makeup is removed and cleansed your skin it’s now time to apply toner. This was a step I added to both my day and night skincare routine after I went for a complimentary spa, it’s made a huge difference in my skin.
STEP 4
Apply skin treatment products that are specific for your skincare concern. They are several to choose from like retinol, wrinkle, and eye cream. I like to use Serum to strengthen your skin, while it boosts its natural repair with Vitamin B3 + Retinoid complex to reduce fine lines & wrinkles, smoothness, brightness, firming, dark spots, and pores all while you sleep. After applying my choice of serum I then go in with my favorite eye cream to hydrates directly under the eye area to help visibly reduce my dark circles, wrinkles and smooth fine lines while I get that well-rested, youthful look.
STEP 5
You would want to use a Nighttime moisturizer, to maintain your skin hydrated. I tend to get dry skin, especially during the winter and moisturizing is a must.
TIP: Your day-time moisturizer needs to be different from your night-time moisturizer. Day time is lightweight and nigh time a bit heavier to moisturize and hydrate.
Exfoliate
I like to exfoliate with an exfoliating brush and use a hydrating face mask at least once a month. You can still maintain a healthy skincare routine with drugstore products but a healthy diet, taking vitamins, and drinking lots of water is the best way to take care of your skin.
I hope you enjoyed today’s post on How to maintain a skin-care routine while home. I know it’s hard for some of us to maintain the lifestyle we use to have, but in the meantime, we have to improvise. It’s been a month since the COVID-19 Pandemic hit hard across the world, especially in New York City, the epic center of the virus. I know once this is all over for many of us our lives will never be the same. I pray for those that lost loved ones, I pray and give thanks to the health care workers on the front line and I give thanks to the first responders and essential workers that have to work during this pandemic. We will get through this together, make sure you reach out to friends and family to make sure they are ok. Please stay safe and stay home.
I hope some of my skincare recommendations are helpful to you. Do you have a good night skincare routine in place or do you struggle with it? What drugstore products are worth the splurge? Love to hear all about it let me know in the comments below!
