It’s that time again the” Back to School” rush. Getting back into the morning routines whether your child is entering Pre-K or is a seasoned student can be stressful. While some of us are still enjoying the summer, why am I thinking about Back to School? If you are like me I like to get organized ahead of time and not leave anything for the last minute. I’ve been there where I left things for the last minute and scrambling for supplies and uniforms. Which it’s very stressful, that’s why I compiled a few tips for Back To School Organization For Moms.
Mommy’s Survival Guide
- To-Do List- Make a list of everything that needs to get done between now and the first day of school.
- Vaccines-If your child is not up to date with vaccines schedule an appointment asap and get that done before school starts. Sate Laws requires that all children must be fully vaccinated before starting kindergarten.
- Private School Uniform- If your child goes to private school and they have a designated store or company where to buy the uniforms from because of the school logo, mom ORDER THEM ASAP. Please don’t wait until the last minute like two days before because you will spend hours on a line trying to get uniforms and by the time it’s your turn they might not have all of the uniforms you need.
- Uniforms-If your child school uses standard colors without school logos, get that shopping out of the way as soon as you can. I know for some of us times are hard so shopping for affordable uniforms and clothes is important. Check out back to school uniform sales at Gap, Old Navy, JcPenny, Carters, and The Children’s Place.
- Check out your state Tax-Free weekend and take advantage of the Back to School sale. ( Every state is different so you have to check your local listing)
- Label your child Uniforms, clothes and supplies. Most schools from Pre-k up to 4th grade are required to label all supplies.
- Bedtime– Start implementing a set bedtime a week or two weeks before the first day of school. I usually start two weeks prior, the older they get the lazier they get.
- Summer Reading/Math Assignments-Double check your child summer reading and math assignments and verify they completed assignments.

Organizing
- School Supplies– Most kids usually get their new supplies list at the end of the school year or most schools have a website where they post it online.
- Don’t wait until the last minute to go out and shop for school supplies. After July 4th most stores will already have their back to school supplies. Get that out of the way as soon as you can. I shop for school supplies at Staples and Target their back to school sales are amazing and affordable. The earlier you shop the more of a chance you will find all of what you are looking for. If you wait until a few days before school starts you are going to be scrambling looking for supplies.
- Planner– I’m old school and I still use planners where I actually physically write down my task, deadlines and mark the calendar for important date. It’s a habit I still haven’t been able to break and just rely on the modern technology planner. I didn’t quite find an app that suited my needs until I stumbled upon Sevenlogics. Between my monthly planner book and my app, it keeps me organized so I can be able to delegate tasks, set deadlines and reminders. I’m like a little kid, when the back to school supplies are displayed I check the planners because it’s the only time of the year where you will find a planner to suit your needs.
- Organizer App– Finding the right planner app, can be challenging because some planner app don’t have what you need to write down your task. It took me a while to find an app that actually worked exactly on what I needed. Download “Sevenlogics” Family Organizer App. I love this App, its an awesome planner for Mom and Dad. Is not only a calendar but you can personalize your agenda, and it comes with a family journal, recipes, To Do List, Wallet (Budget Planner) and Photo. Since I’m old school I have to write my weekly agenda on an actual planner but I also use this app. What I love about this app let’s say your child and spouse have a doctor appt you can use their picture and set it up for each individual person.
- Setting Important Dates– Once you get the school calendar start writing all those important dates, test, class schedule and appointments. I love using a white board/cork board to write important date.
- Homework Station– Create a Homework Station. I always go to The Dollar Tree and rack up on their baskets and containers of all sizes because this is the time to buy all sorts or organizing containers. Amazon also have cute desk organizers that you can buy. I bought a 3 compartment plastic caddie, and plastic small pails to stash crayons, pencils, eraser, glue, scissors, markers and colors pencil. I made my kiddo Homework station mobile because sometimes he likes to do homework in our dining room and our kitchen bar. The Plastic caddie is perfect for creating mobile Homework station.
- Child Care– Start planning Child Care arrangements, as a working mom and first responders sometimes not having a steady schedule can give you all sorts of hyperventilation trying to arrange who will pick up your child from school. Don’t wait until the last minute to arrange child care or for someone to pick up the child because your work schedule change.
- Daily Reminder– I always keep a magnetic dry/erase board on the fridge between my husband and son they seem at time to have memory loss. So for quick reminders to my hubby and kiddo I’ll write it on the board.
- Snack Station- I got three slim baskets from The Dollar Tree, and I filled them up with snacks to fill my kiddos lunch box. It makes it easy to just grab and toss inside the child lunch box.
Hope this guide and tips can be helpful. What are your organizing tip for back to school? Are you getting ready for Back to school? Love to hear all about it, email me… xoxo CC

I know, my kiddo school have the same thing, where we can order the box but since he enjoys shopping with me to buy the supplies and I tolerate it because if it’s up to me i’ll order the supplies box.. LOL.. We already did our back school shopping. I rather get that out of the way now and not wait for the last minute chaos. Thank you.
